Working at Height
Introduction
Falls from height are one of the biggest causes of workplace fatalities and major injuries.
Common causes are falls from ladders and through fragile roofs.
The purpose of this course is to ensure employees are aware of the risks with working at height and help prevent death and injury from a fall from height.
UK Statistics
- 2019/20 - 29 people killed
- 2018/19 - 40 people killed
- 2017/18 - 35 people killed
- Annual average between 2013/14 and 2017/18 was 37 fatalities in the workplace due to falls from height.
- 2018/19 also recorded a further 44,400 falls from height which were not fatal.
Course purpose
This course is aimed at those working at height within their work role.
Work at height means work in any place where, if there were no precautions in place, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury.
For example you are working at height if you:
- are working on a ladder or a flat roof;
- could fall through a fragile surface;
- could fall into an opening in a floor or a hole in the ground.
Course objective
The course is designed to help employees understand the risks of working at height and help them:
- Identify the Roles and Responsibilities
- Identify the Hazards of Working at Heights
- Understand the hierarchy of Control
- Understand Physical Barriers
- Carry out a ladder safety inspection
- Check and don Personal Fall Protection Equipment
- Identify different Work Access Equipment, and Platforms
- Understand the reason for Rescue Planning
