Sharps and Biohazards
Introduction
This course has proven very popular with various councils across the country due to the nature of their staff's roles.
Discarded sharps and needles are becoming more common, often being discarded in parks, woodlands, public toilets and even in the streets.
The course has been designed to highlight the dangers associated with these.
Course purpose
This course is aimed at those who may come into contact with sharps, needles or other biohazard waste within their work role.
This course is ideally suited to:
- cleaners
- council workers
- grounds persons
- waste and recycling workers
- car park attendants
And any others who may come into contact with these hazards.
The course can be adapted to your workforce and their particular hazards, and can include:
- Mould
- Salmonella
- Lyme disease
- Leptospirosis (Weil's Disease)
- Tetanus

Course objective
The course is designed to help employees understand the risks of sharps and biohazards and be able to make informed decisions when working around them:
- What are sharps and different types
- What are the dangers with sharps
- Possible infections
- Personal safety and protection
- Safe disposal
This course is half day (3 hours) classroom based - Practical sessions can be added if required (additional cost).
